The Jonathan Shorr Gallery
is proud to announce an opening of recent sculptures by John Landino and
photographs by Tim Feresten.
John LandinoÕs assemblages are created from found objects. Iron, books, and hard drives have become clasped and welded shut. This exhibition is the culmination of 16 years of work on the subject of sculptures that speak to the issues of censorship in contemporary society. The cycle of creating and destroying is a common theme. Mr. LandinoÕs work is both lyrical and figurative, yet it evokes an apocalyptic, haunting future.
Welding information shut is a
recurring concern of John LandinoÕs work. What is accessible? What is
forbidden? What do we need/ want / have to know?
These found art sculptures
are one of the kind and poetic.
Timothy Feresten has been visiting Louisiana regularly since the mid
1980Õs, enjoying its landscape, people and wildlife. However, all of the images
in his new collection of photographs entitled, ÒLouisiana Change,Ó have been
taken there during this past year.
Traveling the Bayou last spring,
Feresten focused on the aging architecture and the constant erosion of the
coastline. Then, following Hurricane Katrina and its terrible cost to the city
of New Orleans, he returned, working exclusively in the Ninth Ward.
These vivid, beautiful, yet disturbing
photographs have been printed by the photographer, 20 X 24 inches, on Fuji
Crystal Archive paper for maximum permanence.
